To International Children's Day On June 1, Ukraine, as well as countries all over the world, celebrates International Children's Day. As of the beginning of 2022, there were 475,600 children aged 0-17 living in the Lviv region. Since the last population census in 2001, the number of children decreased by 23%, and their share among the residents of the region decreased from 24% to 19%, respectively. In 2021, 19,440 children were born, which is 8% less than in 2020 and 32% less than in 2010. On average, there were 94 girls per 100 boys. 32% more children were born in cities than in rural areas. During the year, 248 pairs of twins and 3 triplets were born. The largest number of babies born in July was 1,893, and the smallest was in January (1,451). Most often, newborn boys were named Matvii (7% of all boys born in the region), Maksym (6%), Artem (5%). The most popular names among newborn girls were: Sofiia (7%), Anna (6%), Victoriia (5%). According to the Children's Service of the Lviv Regional State Administration, at the end of 2021 there were 2,187 children deprived of parental care in the region, of which 784 were orphans. In 2021, 337 children were given the status of orphans and children deprived of parental care. 167 children were left without parental care due to deprivation of their parental rights. During the year, 74 orphans were adopted, by parents who are citizens of Ukraine. By the end of 2021, there were 11,185 children with disabilities in the region, and 23 children with disabilities per 1,000 children under the age of 18. For children who need constant care and treatment, there are 2 orphanages in the region, in which 174 children with disabilities lived by the end of 2021. 135 children were raised in the children's home and 4 orphanages. 272 pupils in 40 family-type orphanages and 145 children in 78 foster families were able to experience parental care.
