The World Food Day


Every year on October 16, World Food Day is celebrated, the purpose of which is to draw public attention to modern nutrition problems in society.

Households in Lviv region in 2021 spent on average half of their total expenditures (51%) on food.
In 2021, compared to 2015, per capita consumption of fish and fish products increased the most (by 1.6 times), as well as fruit, berries and grapes (by 36.0%), vegetables and melons (by 22.5%), vegetable oil (by 16.3%), meat and meat products (by 10.0%), eggs (by 4.1%).
Instead, the consumption of potatoes (by 1.1%), milk and dairy products (by 5.7%), bread products (cereals and bakery products) (by 9.0%), sugar (by 14.3%) has decreased.
Traditionally, the region consumes more potatoes and milk per capita compared to the national average, but less meat and fish products than in Ukraine as a whole.
Lviv region took 1st-2nd places among the regions of Ukraine in terms of vagetable oil consumption, second - in terms of consumption of vegetables and gourds, fourth - in terms of consumption of potatoes and fruits and berries, sixth - sugar, eighth - milk and dairy products.
In 2021, agriculture (enterprises and households) produced 171 kg of milk, 241 eggs, 59 kg of meat, 735 kg of cereals and legumes, 676 kg of potatoes, 333 kg of vegetables, 53 kg of fruits and berries per capita.
Among the regions of Ukraine, Lviv region ranked second in terms of production of potatoes and vegetable crops, fourth in terms of soybean production, fifth in terms of meat and fruit and berry crops, sixth in terms of sugar beet, 8-9th in terms of milk production.
In 2021, Lviv region enterprises imported the most fruits and berries - 222,900 tonnes (including 77,000 tonnes of bananas, 29,300 tonnes of tangerines, 17,500 tonnes of grapes, 16,000 tonnes of oranges), vegetables - 136,400 tonnes (including 67,800 tonnes of potatoes, 28,200 tonnes of tomatoes), fish and crustaceans - 26,500 tonnes, pork - 22,500 tonnes, meat and poultry by-products - 20,300 tonnes, coffee - 10,500 tonnes.
